Early entries for this year's Rolex Fastnet Race have broken all records and we have reached the limit on entry numbers just 10 days after we opened for entries. We are of course delighted that the race is so popular, the places we filled faster than we could ever have imagined. If you did not enter in time then all is not necessarily lost. You can enter the waiting list at http://remus.rorc.org. There are no guarantees but past experience has shown that approximately 10% of boats that enter do not go on to compete in the race so it is very likely that places will become available. Frequently Asked QuestionsHow does the RORC manage entrants in the race? Those who entered in time receive an automatic email confirming that they have entered the race. However this is only the start of the entry procedure and all of the entry, Special Regulations, Experience qualification, training qualification and other requirements must be satisfied before a yacht becomes eligible to start the race. Please see the Guide for Entrants for details. How do I find out what all the entry requirements are?Read the Notice of Race at http://www.rorc.org/2011-notice-of-race/2011-notice-of-race.html Once the boat is either entered into the Rolex Fastnet Race itself or into the Waiting List you will be able to use the REMUS Live Entry Status-Screen. See How can I check on the status of my entry? in the RORC Racing FAQ. What does it mean when REMUS says that my entry is incomplete? It means that you have not yet completed all of the entry requirements. Why can't I enter the waiting list?Because the yacht is already entered the race or has already entered the Waiting List. How will the waiting list be managed? The RORC will manage the Waiting List in accordance with the Notice of Race, see Rolex Fastnet Race NoR 2.4.1. The allocation of places will be at the discretion of the RORC and preference will be given to RORC members. Can I find out where I am on the list? No, the RORC will not disclose where a yacht is on the list; as per the Notice of Race preference will be given to members so we cannot tell you what number you are at present. This decision will be reviewed once a reasonable time has elapsed for people to join the list. How will I know when a place becomes available? The RORC will offer places to yachts on the waiting list as they become available. When you have confirmed that you wish to accept the place offered, it will be allocated to you. When will I find out whether I have a place? It will take some time before yachts start to let us know that they no longer wish to compete. We do not anticipate much movement until the qualifying races are well under way. When will you stop allocating places? The RORC will continue to allocate places as they become available to yachts which have satisfied the entry requirements right up until the start of the race. Do I have to tell the RORC that I no longer wish to remain on the waiting list?Yes please, it will allow others to move up the list. I am on waiting list; should I continue with my qualification, training and other preparations for the race?Yes, otherwise you will not be in a position to compete if a place becomes available. Please continue to provide the required documentation for the race. |
