Welcome to the second blog from the Pyxis girls which I am sad to say is a sorry tale. We had enjoyed a good trip to the Lizard with the wind being kind and allowing us to lay the point without a tack. We then had a somewhat lumpy and mirky trip through between Lands End and the Scillies. Around 0300 we were about 15 miles North of the Scillies in the middle of a watch change when there was a loud bang. On investigation we found that our port diagonal shroud had parted company with the crosstrees. We hastily lowered our sails thereby preserving the mast. That was an all together wet experience as the seas were lumpy and it was pouring with rain. These things never happen in daylight when at least you can see what you are doing. So as I write this the sun is out and the boat resembles a laundry as we dry our kit en route to Falmouth to refuel. We will then return to Plymouth tomorrow for a beer, unfortunately not via Fastnet rock! |
